The rise and fall of the Bible
Never before have so many Bible's been available. There are so many different versions to chose from it is mind boggling. I have at least 7 separate version of the bible myself including one written in Greek and Hebrew. But at the same time the Bible has risen to such availability it has lost the attention of almost all. I read and article this week where a jury verdict was overturned because at lease 5 jury members consulted the Bible. Interestingly this was championed by a group calling them selfish Americans United for Separation of Church and State. In the article that the court is reported as saying "They can certainly discuss their religious views, it said, but bringing in the Bible went too far because the written word conveys the ring of authority and could have influenced some jurors." So now the State has vacated a jury verdict because some of the Jury had religious beliefs. The Bible carried to much authority in written form. Yes so many Christians today let there pastors read them the Bible and interpret it without out even cracking the book themselves. What has the world come to. The Bible should be authoritative being a Moral compass for all who profess to believe it. However even Christians and it seems mostly so called Biblical scholars deride the book as merely a work of fiction with some good moral anecdotes and metaphors.
Today we see the rampant results of a moral decline. Turn on your TV, watch some "reality TV", check out the news reports walk the streets of your town. Remember the dire predictions of those old relics who grew up in the 40's and 50's. Well look around you we are living it. We are afraid to discipline our children because it may show violence to them yet they manage to demonstrate more violent behavior than anyone dreamed of 30 years ago. We are quickly creating a society devoid of values and declaring like the Roman Governor who senescence Jesus Christ to death "What is Truth?" John 18:38. Truth is unrelenting and so we don't like what it says. We like it when it condemns others but then we question it when it condemns us. We like it to be a transient thing we can rationalize away and are then unwilling to except it written down. What the Colorado Supreme Court is afraid of is that some one took something as a higher authority than them selfish. Why it is ok for jurors to express as there opinion what is in the Bible but as soon as you read it now you are quoting God and that is just unacceptable for he is a higher authority than themselves.
Sure I agree the state should not dictate to any man a religion but as I see it I don't care if the jurors brought in the Koran, a marvel comic book or the Satanic Bible that is no reason to overturn the verdict. The state is in essence sponsoring secularism over all other religions. I am happy that jurors consulted the Bible as I believe it to be truth. Regardless of the book however I find this appalling and a state of our society. Let us as individuals respect each others beliefs and stop trying to closet them. I know many will disagree with me and that is your write but respect also the rights of others. But for all of you Consider the effects of turning away from the Bible. Do you like the new society do you think it is moral? Think about it!
